Rencontrer is
a 30-minute cinéma verité documentary. We follow
6 African immigrants of various cultural heritages, in the course
of their daily lives, giving us a wider and broader perspective
of the diverse African immigrant experiences in Philadelphia.
We traverse various layers and cultures as we allow the camera
to intimately capture the daily rhythms and routines of their
new homeland. The 5-minute pieces screened individually, preceding
feature-length African films as part of Reel Voices' Africa
Film Series. Rencontrer screened
at the 2004 Philadelphia Festival of Independents, Northwest
Folklife FilmFest and broadcast on WYBE-TV's Philadelphia Stories
in July 2004.
